Paul Scholes joined Everton when he left his retirement, before Sir Alex Ferguson awarded him a contract at Manchester United.
The legendary midfielder, now 46, hung up his heels in 2011 but remained concerned at the under-23 education in Carrington. Feeling suitable enough to play competitively again, Scholes, then 36, was contacted through a former Everton teammate and skipper Phil Neville to Goodison Park.
But then, a verbal exchange with Ferguson’s assistant, Mike Phelan, and then with the manager, who had failed in his attempts to get Scholes to continue betting six months earlier, secured his romantic return to United.

Manchester City has reportedly joined rival United in the race for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
The Daily Star claims that Pep Guardiola has known the 25-year-old game creator as the ‘ideal addition’ to his squad.
The report adds that it remains to be noted whether the City will bid for the star valued at 70 million pounds when the move-in window opens in January.
Grealish’s surprising form for Villa would possibly mean he will see the season at the club of his formative years to consolidate his position in the England team for Euro 2020 postponed next summer.

Manchester United left-back Alex Telles tested positive for coronavirus at the time while on duty abroad with Brazil.
The Brazilian Football Confederation showed that Guilherme Arana had stayed out of it.
The entire team will now have to be reviewed by COVID-19 after Telles’ positive on Saturday.
If it’s positive again, Telles won’t be able to go to Uruguay.
