2 St. Petersburg Men Plead Guilty to Drug Charges After High-Speed Shootings, Chase

STREET. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two men from St. Petersburg pleaded guilty to ownership of controlled ingredients with intent to distribute them after a high-speed, shooting chase.

Armani Dilworth, 28, and Lemar Cowart, 27, face up to 20 years in federal prison.

Armani Dilworth, 28, also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm for a drug trafficking offense and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, up to life in prison, in federal criminal for the firearms offense, consecutive to the other sentence imposed. Dates have not yet been set.

According to court documents, on May 4, 2020, a witness observed a vehicle, occupied by Dilworth and Cowart, entering oncoming traffic and firing at the front of the vehicle.

This action caused the vehicle to retaliate and a high-speed chase ensued.

The car occupied by Dilworth and Cowart crashed into a door at Azalea High School, and Cowart and Dilworth fled the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, officials discovered cocaine, two ingredients containing an added heroin and fentanyl, alprazolam, oxycodone, amphetamine, buprenorphine and cannabis.

They also discovered evidence that drugs were distributed in the vehicle, adding plastic bags, two scales, scissors and a firearm.

Dilworth and Cowart’s DNA discovered on the firearm recovered from the vehicle.
