When the first high-school poll was released through The Associated Press last week, many others scratched their heads, not because the LSU protective champion came in sixth place, but because the Big Ten and Pac-12 groups were included, despite the postponement.seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It turns out that votes for the ballot were cast long before the meetings took the resolution not to play this fall, so there is no right way to reclassify the vote. Now that we know who will play and won’t play football this fall, they’re reclassifying before the AP ballot falls again.

Don’t hunt tigers
One of the biggest advances between last week’s ballot and this came from Baton Rouge, where LSU’s star catcher, Ja’Marr Chase, decided not to participate in the 2020 season, according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.
Chase, who is regarded as an expert in the top draft as the most productive catcher in the 2021 draft class, a unanimous variety of the first team All-America last season. His 20 landing catches and 1,780 yards received were SEC records, and he won the Biletnikoff Award to the country’s most productive catcher each year, beating CeeDee Lamb of Oklahoma and Michael Pittman Jr. of USC.
The Tigers, who will become a new quarterback after Heisman winner Joe Burrow recruited the general’s No. 1 through the Cincinnati Browns, will now run out of one of the nation’s top electric game creators. While no games have been played between last week’s ballot and this week’s ballotArray, it’s hard to see the Tigers not dive a little now that Chase is out of lineup.
Memphis loses Gainwell to retire
On Sunday night, more important news came from Memphis, with offensive runner Kenny Gainwell opting to exit the 2020 season to prepare for the draft, according to Christian Fowler of 247Sports.
In 2019, Gainwell amassed 2,069 half-yard and touchdowns for a Memphis team that ended 12-2 and lost a shootout to Penn State at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.
The Tigers are still returning to quarterback Brady White, who threw more than 4,000 yards and 33 touchdowns last season, and the wide range Damonte Coxie, who put in 76 passes for 1,276 yards and touchdowns. They will now depend on rodrigues Clark, Asa Martin, Kylan Watkins to take on Gainwell’s role in the Memphis offensive.
