The midfielder has signed a contract with the club until 2025 and will wear the number five shirt.
He turned 25 last week and made a total of 128 appearances and scored five goals in his four-year tenure at Southampton after joining them since Bayern Munich in 2016.
The Danish foreigner left If Brendby for Bayern in July 2012, making his later debut in the season against 1. FC Nurberg at the age of 17 and has become the youngest player to form them in the Bundesliga. He named the Danish Talent of the Year in 2013 and began the 2014 German Cup final, where Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 after extra time.
His stay in Germany also saw him enjoy loan terms at FC Augsburg, which he helped qualify for the Europa League in 2015, and at FC Schalke, where he played more than 30 appearances in the 2015/16 campaign.
He joined the Premier League with Southampton in 2016, helped him qualify for the EFL Cup final in his first season and was named club captain in December 2018.
On the scene, Hejbjerg has amassed 33 games with Denmark to date, with his debut at the age of 18 in his 1-0 win over Sweden in May 2014.
