PARIS (AP) – Euphoria was combined with tension when France celebrated the historic victory of Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Champions League, on the Champs-Elysées with cheers and flares and causing tear gas.
Police arrested 36 other people in Paris after a crowd at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe turned into scattered violence, but no serious injuries were reported and the atmosphere was incredibly festive.
By beating Leipzig 3-0 on Tuesday, the PSG nevertheless reached the largest interclub festival in Europe for the first time. Only one French team won the title, and that was a generation ago: Marseille in 1993.
