Leeds United have rejected a £4 million offer for teenager Darko Gyabi from Ligue 2 club Valenciennes, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Leeds United are reportedly keen to allow the 19-year-old to leave the club on loan, but have reportedly rejected an initial offer from Valenciennes for a permanent transfer of £4,000,000. The club is owned by Sport Republic, an organisation owned by Southampton. .
The midfielder joined the club from Manchester City a year ago for a fee of around £5,000,000 and has since been a regular in the team’s U21 team. He made his senior debut in a late appearance against Manchester City in the Premier League, also competing in the FA Cup and EFL Cup. He also represented his team in appearances in the EFL Trophy.
Gyabi failed to break through alongside Daniel Farke with Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu as favourites in the middle of the park. So far this season, he has given the impression of just one minute in the league and missed the EFL Cup defeat to Salford City.
Leeds desperately need signings as the window approaches and will most likely reach deals for Werder Bremen’s Ilya Gruev and Rangers’ Glen Kamara as the deadline approaches. This pushes Gyabi even further down the pecking order and may lead him to stay with Sam. Greenwood after completing his loan spell at Middlesbrough.
After joining just a year ago for £5 million, Leeds are unlikely to accept a lower-cost deal, even if it currently has no support for Daniel Farke. A loan resolution makes sense as he looks to gain experience and potentially increase his chances of a place in the first team next season or increase his price and perhaps secure a bigger move elsewhere.
