A man injured today in an incident at the structure of Everton Football Club’s new stadium later died in hospital, police said.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it was aware of the tragedy and police showed officials were in the “early stages” of an investigation. Emergency was called to the site of the Bramley Moore pier structure in Vauxhall, Liverpool, at around 1pm. of Monday.

The 26-year-old was taken to hospital but sadly later died from his injuries, Merseyside Police confirmed.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can verify that a man died following an incident at Bramley Moore Dock this afternoon, Monday 14 August.

“At around 1 p. m. it was reported that a 26-year-old man had been injured and emergency services rushed to the scene. “

“The man was taken to hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed. Officers remain at the scene while we continue the initial stages of the investigation together with the health and protection officer. “

Liverpool Echo workers told them they had been informed of an incident and were then asked to leave the Array, but may not have shared further details.

The victim, who allegedly suffered serious head injuries, was taken to Aintree Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The Echo said it understood the incident to refer to “heavy machinery” but there was no precise clarification.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which investigates office accidents, were photographed at the scene conducting investigations. Forensic Merseyside Police vehicles were observed at the front of the scene and an air ambulance was also called.
