Former Liverpool prodigy Jordon Ibe has been released via out-of-league side Ebbsfleet.
The 28-year-old joined the club in October but has made an appearance in the National League this season. Ibe came on as a second-half substitute in a goalless draw against Oldham in February.
Having signed just one contract until the end of the current campaign, Ibe is one of eight players who have been presented with a new contract and who will leave Ebbsfleet this summer. Former Liverpool youngster David Amoo and former Peterborough and Barnet striker Shaq Coulthirst are among the others set to go.
Six players remain under contract, while Fleet have started talks with 12 stars as they plan a second consecutive season in the fifth tier. Kent’s side secured their position in the National League with an important draw on the final day at Boreham Wood, which kept them going but knocked out their warring parties.
Ibe began his career with League One side Wycombe before signing for the Reds in December 2011. After first partnering with the club’s under-18s, Ibe made his first-team debut on the final day of the 2012/13 season, starting and lending a hand in the 1–0 win over QPR.
After spending time on loan at Birmingham and Derby, Ibe returned to Liverpool and established himself as a regular player under Brendan Rodgers and then Jurgen Klopp. Throughout the 2015/16 season, Ibe scored 4 goals and racked up 4 assists in 41 games, an average in the Reds’ team.
However, in search of even more opportunities, Ibe left Liverpool and signed for Bournemouth for a record payment of £15 million. He struggled to get into shape in his first crusade on the South Coast, completing the season without a goal in 26 appearances. .
In fact, Ibe only scored his first goal for the Cherries in January 2018 in a 2-1 win over Arsenal. He ended that crusade by contributing four goals in 38 games, an improvement over his first season. But that’s about it for the winger, who was released at the end of his contract in June 2020.
It didn’t take long for Ibe to return to football, as he joined former club Derby on a two-year contract 3 months later, but only made one appearance for the Rams and spoke in January 2021 about his war against depression. and struggles of intellectual fitness.
“I need it for all my enthusiasts around the world,” Ibe wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’m in a dark situation because of depression.
“It’s not a ploy by the media or to have my call in their mouth, I just think things are really difficult. I appreciate all the love and messages from everyone. These are difficult times in general because of this pandemic. I have the full support of my circle of family and Derby County Football Club.
“I’m going into this situation, where I’m 100 percent committed. Not only for my family, my closest friends or my adorable daughter, but also for me. “
After leaving Derby at the end of that season, Ibe was without a club for more than six months before returning to sign for Adanaspor. He did not appear for the Turkish second team and spent a year out of action before his transfer. a Ebbsfleet was shown earlier this season.
