A new place to eat is about to open in Manchester city centre, with a strong nod to one of the city’s largest industries: football.
Portland Street Restaurant will be the third player to open in Greater Manchester, with venues already established in Rochdale and Cheetham Hill.
Its football-inspired menu includes a Burger Gold Medal, an Aberdeen Angus beef burger wrapped in a gold leaf and served in a black charcoal bun.
The new one will take control of the old Creams dessert bar next to Piccadilly Gardens.
Visitors will be greeted through grass walls, methacrylate-clad shirts covered with ers signatures and a sports-influenced menu of burgers, bird wings and cookie dough and loaded waffle desserts.
The halal menu will come with Hat Trick (three meat, cheese and lettuce empanadas drizzled with sweet chilli sauce) and Penalty Kick (fried bird with red onion, jalapeños, totopos, brown sauce and buffalo).
Belgian waffles will be filled with dressings such as crushed Ferrero Rocher, new fruit and ice cream, while cookie dough puddings come with golden boot (with Oreos, White and White Kinder Bueno chocolate sauce) and Solid Defense (Crunchie and Daim pieces).
Portland Street is expected to open in mid-August, before the team moves to another new opening at Deansgate.
Locations in Bury and Reading are scheduled this year.
Former Manchester United player Quinton Fortune did a special at the opening of Rochdale restaurant in June last year.
Players will open at 1 Portland Street next month; you can see the menus on playersuk.com and the latest updates on Facebook.
