Switzerland’s Esther Staubli to take the pace of VfL Wolfsburg’s setting with Olympique Lyonnais
The UEFA Referees Committee has announced that Esther Staubli will referee the 2020 UEFA Women’s Champions League final between VfL Wolfsburg and Olympique Lyonnais. The Fit will be played at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian on Sunday, August 30 at 20:00 CET.
The 40-year-old Swiss, who has been a foreign referee since 2006, will assess her final moment in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Staubli was first awarded in 2015, when she oversaw the latest in Berlin with the 1. FFC Frankfurt defeating Paris Saint-Germain.
Staubli is tasked with refereeing 3 UEFA Women’s Champions League matches this season, the quarter-finals between Women FC and Paris Saint-Germain in San Sebastian on 22 August.
The venue in Bern is a highly experienced referee and has taken the score of the UEFA Women’s Final in 2017, with the Netherlands facing Denmark in Enschede. She also refereeed matches at last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
During the final in San Sebastian, Staubli will be assisted by Sanja Roak Karia of Croatia and Ukraine Oleksandra Ardasheva. The fourth referee is Jana Adumkova of the Czech Republic. The role of video assistant referee (VAR) has been awarded to José María Sánchez Martínez and will be assisted through compatriot Ricardo De Burgos Bengoechea. The assistant reserve referee is Maryna Striletska of Ukraine.
