A guy from Wishaw who claimed to have found indecent photographs of young people looking for an e-book to spend a vacation in Russia has moved away from a criminal sentence.
Robert Boyd was placed under supervision for two years in Hamilton Sheriff’s Court and will be placed on the sex offenders’ register during the same period.
You will also need to do 190 hours of unpaid network work.
Boyd, 53, of Mafeking Street, admitted to having indecent photographs of young people on a computer at his home between October 2008 and December 2017.
Jennifer McLaren, a prosecutor, said some 400 photographs of women over the age of 3 to 15 were discovered on the device.
The court heard that the crime was discovered after Boyd spoke with a psychiatrist at Wishaw General Hospital.
Ms. McLaren said: “The defendant seeks to assess his intellectual health.
“His ex-spouse revealed to the psychiatrist that Boyd had seen indecent photographs of young people on his phone and computer for about 3 years.
Boyd begged me to talk to the police, which he did the same day.
“He told police he was looking for a vacation on a Russian online page when he arrived through porn.
“He shows, in his own words, sticky things, adding pictures of children.
“Boyd said he first sought pornography, but interest prevailed and he had accessed shots of young people under the age of 16.
“He told the police that he had looked at the places he had gone out because he wasn’t feeling well.
“However, he admitted to visiting the sites every other day for one hour and part at a time. “
