Abel Xavier counts his two and a half years with Everton as one of the happiest periods of a busy race.

“There are no regrets, ” says Xavier.
“Many coaches and players have runs, but they would come back and make a difference.
“I felt that my career was well lived and that I would not replace anything.
“Things came out naturally. It’s not about where I wanted to go, it’s about the clubs I was looking for.
“I looked for it somewhere where I felt important.”
After a year in Italy, Xavier signed for the Spanish national team Real Oviedo where, at the time of the season, he led through the respected Uruguayan Oscar Tabárez.
He spent a season with Dutch PSV Bobthrough Robson before being drawn to Everton through Walter Smith.
“All my coaches are my references to me,” says Xavier, who had a complicated date with his last club manager, Ruud Gullit on LA Galaxy.

And Xavier knew it.
So joining Liverpool is a complex decision?
“It’s very, very difficult,” Xavier says. “I tried to stay longer but it wasn’t possible. The Everton wasn’t as strong financially as it is today and I can’t extend my contract, which is six months away.”
“When we left, I think everything was done correctly.
“Liverpool looked for me a lot and I’m a pro.
“But you’ll have to respect the criticisms of the hobby.

When he thinks more broadly, given the nature of “having shoes, traveling” from his 18 years as a professional footballer, Xavier is going through the outside of his career.
“I played with Champions League clubs: Benfica, PSV, Liverpool, Galatasaray and Roma,” says Xavier, who also represented Hannover 96 in Germany and the Premier League Middlesbrough before completing in Los Angeles.

Xavier’s broader attitude deserves not to be with a lack of competitive advantage.
He admits that Portugal’s good luck at the French European Championships in 2016 erased the injury suffered by his “golden generation” for 16 years following his debatable semi-final defeat to the French at the 2000 tournament.
Xavier conceded the decisive penalty in Portugal’s 2–1 defeat and was barred from playing in UEFA competitions for six months following his reaction to the referee’s decision.
“You have to leave the afterlife in the right position, but it was a relief when Portugal won the European Championship,” Xavier says.
“We were the team of the 2000 tournament and thought we deserved to win it.
“Revenge is not the right word … but winning with the generation, for everyone on our team, we were very happy.”
Xavier’s next foreign purpose is to take Mozambique to his first African National Cup final since 2010.
They won their first qualifying match 1-0 in Namibia, thanks to a purpose in the 90th minute.
Such a drama, however, is a small one in a much larger story.
“I’m improving my career and I’m very special in construction because of my roots,” Xavier says.
“I left Mozambique as a child and came back here as a man.
“I in a poor country, in the neighborhoods, then I did my career abroad, and now I’m back in the neighborhoods, in a country that wants help. That’s great.
“I’m building a house.
“But now I’m solidifying the base, and I hope the roof doesn’t fall on my head.”
