Aberdeen FC will get a Granite City celebratory parade if they win the Viaplay Cup.

The City Council agreed today in assembly to set aside a budget for this occasion.

However, Barry Robson’s men will first have to beat Rangers in the final cup match.

The Dons will travel to Hampden Park to face Glasgow on Sunday, December 17.

Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Belford revealed plans for a victory parade.

Belford noted that the team’s cup victories in the past have been “recognized and celebrated” through events.

SNP finance leader Alex McLellan wanted the Dons “all the best” for the cup final.

While Councilman Tauqeer Malik said he believed the birthday party would take place.

He added: “I’m very confident that Aberdeen Football Club will win. “

The council will now prepare for a birthday party in town if the Dons win the cup.

A parade last held in Aberdeen to commemorate the club’s Scottish League Cup victory in March 2014.

More than 50,000 football fans took to the streets of the city center to watch the team take the trophy home in an open-top bus.

The team’s captain at the time, Russell Anderson, proudly raised the cup as the enthusiastic Dons enthusiasts cheered on the boys.

The money for the next occasion would come from the Common Good Fund if the Donations were successful.
