Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin has refused to dismiss reports that Aberdeen intend to appoint him permanent manager.
The 46-year-old wanted to highlight the interest of the Pittodrie club.
Thelin is one of Aberdeen’s most sensible targets to update Barry Robson, who sacked him more than two months ago.
Thelin led Elfsborg to second place in the Swedish top flight last season.
He has a contract with Elfsborg until the end of the 2026 Swedish season.
The Elfsborg coach inspired his interview for the job last year, but lost out to Robson.
The Dons Board of Directors continues to explore a number of oversight functions and is in the latter stages of the process.
Thelin would have been reluctant to leave Elfsborg so early for the new Swedish season, which began last weekend.
However, Pittodrie’s board of directors would arguably be willing to wait until the summer to hire a new coach if that time was needed to reach a major goal.
Elfsborg director Stefan Andreasson warned that Aberdeen would face a fight to get Thelin.
Andreasson said he had had conversations with Thelin about his long-term career and hoped to remain at Elfsborg.
Thelin remains one of the Dons’ top targets, but insists his target is the high-flying Swedish club that has qualified for Europe next season.
Thelin told Swedish newspaper Boras Tidning: “I’m in Elfsborg, I’m enjoying it a lot and I’m completely focused on that.
“There have been a lot of rumors, if I had to comment on all of this, it would be beyond my paintings here. “
