Aberdeen have already sold around 17,000 tickets for next month’s Viaplay Cup final against Rangers.
Tickets went on sale to fans two hundred in advance at 8 a. m. Tuesday, and the rest went on general sale at five p. m.
Some season ticket holders took to social media to express their frustration at not being able to buy tickets following a big call-up for the Rangers’ matchup at Hampden.
The Dons were denied a 50-50 split for the cup final after receiving just 19,500 tickets for the final, and the Rangers received 25,000.
Lead donation executive Alan Burrows has issued a message apologizing to supporters who have been unable to secure ticket prices so far and said season ticket holders will be given priority when the final 2,500 tickets are released.
He also said the massive demand for tickets is evidence that the Dons likely would have exhausted their allocation if they had secured a 50-50 split for the game.
He wrote on social media: “Based on the tweets and replies, we have a lot of frustrated Dandies posting tickets for the ViaPlay Cup final.
“We have exhausted our INITIAL allocation.
“We won up to 19,500 tickets; The first batch of about 17,000 was shipped almost immediately.
“The box office set a threshold of 200 issues to purchase a ticket and then, this afternoon at five o’clock in the afternoon, the rest went on full general sale.
“Even if it’s for the right reasons, in hindsight, it’s a mistake on our part.
“We’ve had a second era of sales for fewer numbers before, i. e. 100-199, before the full general sale, which ensures more control.
“This is a lesson we will learn.
“I take it upon myself to do so, and I actually feel sorry for those who have been frustrated lately.
“The good news is that we are still waiting for around 2,500 more season tickets and we will make sure to prioritise season ticket holders/higher point holders when we have them.
“If you’ve missed any tickets and would like to go, please email Ticketoffice@afc. co. uk and the team will take care of it as soon as we get the extra batch (we’re pushing SPFL to get them). us as soon as possible).
“This highlights our advocacy that we have been given the opportunity to Hampden on a 50/50 basis.
“Considering we sold 17,000 tickets in just a few days, I think it’s fair to say there’s a strong chance we would have sold 50% of our percentage if we’d had the chance. “
