Aberdeen’s next manager is Jack Wilshere interested in void at Pittodrie

Arsenal youth coach Jack Wilshere is the latest call-up in the race to succeed Barry Robson at Aberdeen.

The 32-year-old Arsenal youth manager is interested in the vacant role at Pittodrie, according to the Daily Record.

But it is understood that this time Aberdeen’s board of directors will most likely seek to appoint a manager with more experience.

Wilshere played for Arsenal, West Ham, Bournemouth and AGF in Denmark during his playing career and was capped 34 times for England.

Meanwhile, former Celtic boss Neil Lennon remains the bookmaker for the Aberdeen job.

It has been reported that former Sunderland and Stoke City boss Alex Neil, another one of the main candidates to succeed Robson, is unlikely to want to return to Scottish football.

The Dons confirmed on Friday that first-team coach Peter Leven, assisted by Scott Anderson, will take the Celtic squad to Pittodrie on Saturday lunchtime.

One club said: “Both have worked tirelessly over the past few days to oversee education and prepare the team for Saturday.

“Peter and Scott are fully focused on the decisive Premiership game and have the full cooperation of everyone in the AFC. “

Aberdeen’s groups have been underperforming for years, but managers are paying the price, says Jonny Hayes
