AC Milan 1-2 Inter Milan: Inter win Serie A name with win over rivals

Inter Milan were Serie A champions for the 20th time after a 2-1 win over rivals AC Milan.

A header from Francesco Acerbi and the arrival of Marcus Thuram allowed Inter to clinch the Scudetto with five rounds remaining, while Simone Inzaghi’s side took an unassailable 17-point lead over second-placed city rivals who scored a goal behind former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

Before Inter’s victory was confirmed, tensions erupted at San Siro with three red cards in stoppage time: Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria were sent off for AC Milan, while Denzel Dumfries was sent off for Inter.

But this delayed aggravation may not ruin Inter’s celebrations, as Inzagi won his first league title as head coach.

Inter took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to Acerbi’s goal, and then, 4 minutes into the second half, Thuram fired low to double the lead.

Milan had a late comeback with Tomori cutting the deficit in the 80th minute with a rebound, but failed to find the equalizer to quell the joy of their opponents.

In stoppage time, tempers flared when a fight broke out between the players, with Dumfries and Hernandez receiving red cards.

A few minutes later, Milan were down to nine players when Calabria also won their marching order for violent conduct after a blow with their arm.
