Manchester United are awaiting formal loan offers from AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund for Marcus Rashford after both clubs expressed interest to the player’s representatives, sources told ESPN.

United are actively seeking answers for Rashford in the January window, with the England striker out of favor with new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford has not played since the 2-1 victory over FC Viktoria Plzen on December 12. The club is in a position to pay attention to all offers from the 27-year-old player, whether permanent contracts or loan deals. Napoli are also reportedly interested in Rashford.

Sources have told ESPN that the most likely end result this month, if he leaves Old Trafford, would be a direct loan deal. It is also not ruled out that Rashford will remain at United beyond the deadline.

Milan and Dortmund are expected to pay a portion of Rashford’s salary before agreeing a deal.

A main obstacle is his salary of around £350,000 ($436,000) per week. United are willing to show flexibility to facilitate a transfer but bosses have promised there will be no repeat of Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal, which saw Chelsea agree to continue paying almost 90% of the winger’s salary.

Rashford would also welcome interest from Spain and Barcelona, but his monetary scenario would complicate any potential move.

United have also not ruled out entering into negotiations with another Premier League club if Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham make their interest explicit.

United’s delicate financial situation also means they would have to listen to offers for every member of the first-team squad.

The club is not willing to actively offload players like Kobbie Mainoo, however, resources have told ESPN that no one is off limits as they look to balance the books.

Mainoo, according to sources, wants to stay at Old Trafford despite slow progress during talks to extend his contract.

The English midfielder’s contract extends until 2027 with the option to extend it for one more year.
