CINCINNATI (AP) — Luciano Acosta scored a goal and added two assists as FC Cincinnati beat St. Cincinnati. John’s. Louis City 3-1 on Saturday night for its sixth straight win.
Cincinnati (9-2-3) has won every single game since a 2-0 loss to CF Montréal on April 13.
Acosta opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 26th minute, his fifth goal in the last six games.
Acosta, 29, the 15th player in MLS history with at least 150 career goals. Acosta, who has 65 goals and 87 assists, joins Kei Kamara as the only active player to accomplish this feat.
Yuya Kubo gave Cincinnati a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute. Acosta faked a pass to freeze the defense, then passed a ball to Kubo to complete a throw-in near the right corner of the penalty area.
St. Louis, which lost 2-0 to Los Angeles FC in a timeout at home, has lost two straight games after a five-game unbeaten streak.
St. Louis cut its deficit to 2-1 with an own goal when Matt Miazga’s pass to Roman Celentano beat the goalkeeper in the 54th minute.
Sergio Santos capped the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute. Luca Orellano sent a pass down the left to Acosta, who beat a defender, then played a low ball to the far post where Santos smashed it into an open net.
St. Louis (3-3-7) won the other club meeting 5-1 on April 15, 2023.
Roman Bürki saved St. Louis.
Cincinnati outshot St. Louis 15-11, with 8-3 scoreless.
