Interim boss Peter Leven believes any Aberdeen managerial targets would be “insane” if they knocked down Pittodrie’s job.
The search for a permanent manager through the Aberdeen hierarchy continues, 59 days after Barry Robson’s sacking.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill is connected to Aberdeen’s position but insists his focus is on the national team.
Elfsborg’s beloved coach, Jimmy Thelin, dropped out of the race for Pittodrie’s job to remain at the more sensible Swedish club.
Rijeka coach Zeljko Sopic, who led the club to the top of the Croatian league, also spoke about Pittodrie’s emptiness.
However, the 49-year-old Sepic says he has no interest in Aberdeen’s next manager.
Aberdeen had set its sights on appointing a new permanent manager during the overseas hiatus, but that deadline has passed.
Leven will be provisionally involved in the relegation war against second-place County Ross.
Chief executive Alan Burrows recently said the club is “entering the final stages” of the search for the next manager.
Leven said: “Any coach with this task would be crazy if he didn’t settle for it, it’s a huge club with huge potential.
“We were in Europe at the beginning of the season, beat Frankfurt at home and performed well in European games.
“We’ve been to a cup final and they gave us another semi-final coming up.
“There are a lot of people here, the club is a sleeping giant. “
Although the procedure took longer than expected, Aberdeen remains confident in its ability to achieve its number one management goal.
Leven is pleased to remain in the role on an interim basis until the new head coach is named, even if there are more games beyond Ross County.
He said: “I’ve told the club that I’m happy to step in when they want me.
“I told my wife the other day how many people were looking to be managers in Aberdeen and I have that privilege.
“I’m honored to be here and I will as long as I’m sitting here.
“That’s how you approach things, you get to a certain age and look at your life thinking about what you did.
“A lot of other people would accept the possibility with the Aberdeen manager.
“So I’m very happy to be here as interim coach and I’m going to take advantage of it. “
General manager Burrows and director of football Steven Gunn held a meeting with the team on Monday about the management situation.
They first met with veteran players like Captain Graeme Shinnie before talking to everyone and proved that Leven would lead the opponents to Ross County.
Leven said: “Alan and Steven spoke to us this week.
“They told us they were going through a procedure and it would take a little longer.
“They were pleased with what we did against Motherwell (1-0 win), so take it to Ross County.
“It is vital for them to get some clarity from Alan and Steven about what is happening at the moment.
“He told them who was in charge.
“The players are happy, they’ve been working education this week and there’s been a smart attitude from them.
“They gave me the concentrate and application I was looking for. “
Aberdeen’s adjustment against Ross County is of paramount importance to the final results of the season.
Victory would open up a six-point gap for the Staggies, who sit in the relegation play-off spot.
The loss would push Ross County to the point of trouble with the Dons and raise concerns about the fall.
Leven suggested the Reds take the lead in Pittodrie.
He said, “This weekend is a game because of our position in the league and Ross County’s situation in relation to us.
“Every game is huge in Aberdeen because we are expected to win every week.
“The fans are waiting for him, the club is waiting for him and even other people from the outside are waiting for him.
“There’s more confidence in the team after Motherwell, I’ve noticed that they’re brave with the ball.
“And the blank sheet is also helping because too many goals were missed this season.
“There were some symptoms there and I think we can start from here.
“We were tasked with scoring first, starting early and fast so we could put Ross County on the defensive.
“Too many times this season they conceded the first goal and chased the game.
“So what I need to see is that we get off to a fast start. “
