ANKARA
Ajax signed English midfielder Jordan Henderson on Thursday.
Ajax Amsterdam have Henderson, who played for Sunderland and Liverpool, have sealed the contract with the Dutch powerhouse that expires on June 30, 2026.
Henderson, 33, was a free agent and agreed to terminate his deal with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq recently.
The English international was a regular for Liverpool in 2011-2023 and became the captain of the Reds in 2015.
He left Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq on July 27 and played in Saudi Arabia for more than six months.
“We wanted an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities. Partially due to injuries in the team, we were looking for someone who could step in immediately. Jordan Henderson is that type of player,” said Ajax head coach John van ‘t Schip.
“Amsterdam! So happy to be here. Can’t wait to see you all soon,” Henderson wrote on X.
Henderson helped Liverpool win several trophies, adding the 2019 UEFA Champions League and 2020 English Premier League title, as well as a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
He has amassed 81 caps for England.
