Alabama slides to No. 1 and Notre Dame rises to No. 2 in the 1-127 ranking of NCAA USA TODAY Sports.
After spending the last few weeks threatening Clemson’s control at No. 1, Alabama claimed first place after the Tigers’ 47-40 double loss at Notre Dame.
Victory gives the Irish a more powerful record for the No. 2 that Ohio State, which remains third after beating Rutgers. While OSU is undeniably impressive, the Irish played 4 games more overall than the Buckeyes and 3 more opposed to the Power Five competition.
And no OSU victory can come close to Notre Dame’s victory over Clemson, who had not lost in the regular season since 2017. Since the narrow defeat on the road and with several key players unavailable, the Tigers fall to No. 4.
