Alejandro Garnacho visited seven-year-old Anderson Pollard in Carrington to present him with an award this week. The young fan overcame a serious illness.
Manchester United’s official website highlights how the young fan had the chance to meet his favourite player, Garnacho, and was awarded the ‘Manchester United Bravery Award 2024’.
Unfortunately, the young man was diagnosed with “a rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, after mild episodes of abdominal discomfort. “
Naturally, his parents were devastated but Anderson bravely fought on and was thankfully given the all clear earlier this month at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
For this reason, the club invited the young Carrington fan for an excursion to the educational complex.
What he didn’t know was that Garnacho, Anderson’s favorite player at the club, was waiting for him at Carrington and this led to a heartwarming meeting between the two.
The youngster was shell-shocked to see his hero in the flesh.
However, he calmed down temporarily and chatted with the Argentine striker about his favorite goal of his career, including the impressive aerial shot against Everton in November.
Presenting Anderson with a very special Manchester United award for bravery too, Garnacho couldn’t hide his emotions when interacting with the seven-year-old.
The striker said: “I have something for you, how brave, a warrior. “
When Anderson’s mom asked him about his experience, he replied, “I saw Garnacho!”
The youngster was also invited to last month’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Despite the criticism and bad news headlines players constantly face, it is also important to remember of the positive influence and inspiration they can also offer to young people and it is certain that Garnacho’s visit will be one of Anderson’s most cherished days in his young life.
