Alex Dicken assesses Birmingham City after seven-goal league clash against Southampton at St Andrew’s
Joe Aribo scored in the 96th minute to secure a 4-3 win for Southampton Birmingham City with 10 men.
A crazy game at St Andrew’s came in stoppage time from Aribo after Juninho Bacuna equalised for the Blues in the round of 16. The Blues had already noticed the sending off of captain Dion Sanderson.
The Blues led at half-time thanks to goals from Koji Miyoshi and Jay Stansfield on either side from Adam Armstrong, but Southampton responded after the break and equalised through David Brooks before former Blues striker Che Adams gave them the lead before Sanderson was sacked.
Bacuna appeared to have given the Blues a point before Saints substitute Aribo went home. As a result, Les Bleus are now just above the championship relegation zone in terms of goal difference.

Cheered on by another notable crowd at St Andrew’s, the Blues made a very good start to the game and took the lead within two minutes. Bacuna’s comeback opened up Southampton’s defence with an adorable pass to Miyoshi and the Japanese winger finished off Gavin Bazunu’s slight deflection from Ryan Manning.
The Blues nearly doubled their lead when Bacuna got into midfield and hit the post from 20 yards. Emanuel Aiwu, starting his first league title since Tony Mowbray’s appointment, superbly put pressure on former Blues striker Che Adams midway through to regain possession. .
