ALFREDO MORELOS turned around last week when he scored his first goal for Santos.
But a few days later, the former Rangers striker made headlines for another reason.
Morelos left Ibrox at the end of last season and discovered a new club in the form of Brazilian giants Santos after 3 months as a free agent.
But it turned out to be a nightmare for the Colombian striker, who only made the impression three times as the historic club dropped to second place for the first time in its history.
Morelos was once back in the air but took a pay cut to stay and leave to send Pelé’s former club back to Brazil’s Serie A.
Ahead of the resumption of Serie A in April, Santos is lately in the Campeonato Paulista, a league championship contested by clubs from the state of Sao Paulo.
Morelos, through it all, scored his first goal for Santos, scoring from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win at Sao Paulo last week, the club’s sixth win in eight games.
But the team’s (and indeed Morelos’) fortunes suffered a brutal setback last night when they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Novorizontino.
After his goal against Sao Paulo, Morelos moved into the starting spot for last night’s clash.
But it didn’t go well and he was substituted at half-time by fans who criticised his functionality on social media.
One fan gushed out, “How bad is the pretended player Alfredo Morelos?”
Another said, “Morelos doesn’t work. “
A third commented: “Furch has to start. Morelos is not in shape. “
A fourth said: “Morelos is fit to start!”
It turns out that the frustrations were given to him by the elders of Morelos, who apparently reacted angrily to the shouts coming from the stands.
According to reports, adding the Santistas, Morelos “became a target” of enthusiasts dissatisfied with his performance.
Another report states that Morelos “is angry. “
And one Santos fan, a businessman and influencer named Fabio Parra, claimed that the 27-year-old gave him the middle finger.
Parra says he told Morelos he was “out of shape,” prompting the former Rangers man’s obvious angry gesture.
A Santos supporter said: “It’s unfortunate that Morelos has pointed the finger at the fans, it doesn’t work, but it doesn’t justify accepting the complaint and destroying the courtship with the fans. “
But while many fans stood behind Morelos’ back, several other Santos supporters rushed to protect the striker.
One fan wrote: “This profile and Alfredo Morelos at Santos FC!”
While at one point he said: “Before I was one hundred percent Morelos, now I am 200% Vamooosss Buffalo!”
Meanwhile, Rangers’ failure Sam Lammers helped Utrecht set a stunning new record.
The striker, who spent just six months at Ibrox before being transferred in January, has helped the Eredivisie club remain unbeaten in 14 games.
This is their unbeaten streak in the competition.
