Jan Vertonghen has shown that he leaves Tottenham.
The defender received a new contract through the Spurs and left after eight years in north London.
Vertonghen, who has made 315 appearances with the club in all competitions, announced the news via a social media message in which he said it was “a sad day for many reasons.”
“My stay at the club is over,” the Belgian foreigner wrote. “An unhappy day for many reasons.
“I will miss the friends I made here, the staff that makes the club work, who play in the amazing new stadium and, of course, the fans. Thank you for all your years. They’ve been amazing.
“We’ve had a lot of amazing memories, but now it’s goodbye.”
Vertonghen reached the final of the EFL Cup in 2015 and the Champions League last year, but failed to win a trophy in his career with the Spurs.
The 33-year-old has been linked to a return to the former Ajax club.
Goalkeeper Michel Vorm is expected to leave the Spurs on Monday when his own contract expires.
Speaking to Instagram after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Spurs striker Harry Kane said: “I only wish the most productive to @jvertonghen and @mvorm with what awaits them. It’s a thrill to share a costume and play with both. . “
