Andres Iniesta believes Nico Williams will take Barcelona to “another level” if his ex beats Chelsea and Arsenal to the Spanish winger.
Williams caught the attention of La Liga giants Barca and Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal in Spain’s impressive Euro 2024 campaign.
The 22-year-old has started five of Spain’s six matches at the Euros (he was rested for his final organizational match) helping Luis de los Ángeles Fuente’s team triumph in Sunday’s final, where they will face Englos angelesnd.
Speculation about Williams’ long career is expected to intensify after Euro 2024, with his current club Athletic Bilbao looking for approaches to the exciting winger.
Barcelona are believed to be leading the race to sign Williams, but the Spanish club could still face the Chelsea and Arsenal festival.
When asked about Barca’s interest in Williams, Camp Nou legend Iniesta told Mundo Deportivo: “The point he is presenting is in line with that of the national team.
“Nico has also had a season at his club, it is a call that will indeed be heard through the big teams.
“His signing for Barcelona would take the club to another level, but let’s see what happens. “
While Williams is connected to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, he has informed his entourage that he needs to hear about interest after Euro 2024.
“I said I didn’t need to know anything that came from outside, not the dedications or the stories,” he told Spanish media AS earlier this month.
“They know who I am, what personality I have, and I don’t like knowing that because I get distracted easily. I prefer to bet on one thing and go for it.
“Because if something comes to mind, in the end my head doesn’t work very well.
“My agent, my parents and my family know me perfectly and know that I don’t need to hear anything before the Euro is over. “
Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Pedri, who will miss the Euro 2024 final due to injury, has already suggested to Williams that she sign for him at Camp Nou.
“Nico Williams would be an impressive signing for us at Barcelona, he would be fantastic,” Pedri said recently. “He is a player who is already showing what he is capable of doing. I hope he can sign for us!”
When asked if he had spoken to Williams about his move to Barca, Pedri added: “We didn’t talk much about it.
“It’s a decision that he and Barça have to make. There are many things that have to happen.
