Ange Postecoglou uses Greg Taylor as an example to his Tottenham full-backs of what good luck looks like in that position.
The jury is out on the Scotland international within the Celtic fan base as some debate whether he is worthy of being their first choice left-back. But his former boss has left no doubts over what he thinks of him in a glowing recommendation of his skills south of the border.
Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are being asked to play backwards, as Taylor spent both of his seasons as Spurs manager at Celtic. And speaking at his pre-Nottingham Forest press conference, Taylor was ruled out when Postecoglou was asked if he had ever had a full-back who was very clever when it came to passing and creating plays. He replied: “yes, yes, to the maximum of the guys, to the maximum of the groups I’ve had, whether it’s at Celtic, where Greg Taylor was very influential. “
“Anthony Ralston, Alistair Johnston and when I was at Yokohama, Ken Matsubara. I could go on. They were all very influential and it’s part of the way we play, and they all hugged me after a goal.”
Postecoglou also needs to get Tottenham back to the Champions League organisational level after seeing more continental action in midweek. He added, “What do you think, dude? Do you think I’m saying, let’s see what’s on TV tonight?”, the Champions League? Yes, I’ll take a look. Yes, I’m a big fan of football. “No, I’ve seen it all and European football in general, that’s where we need to be.
“You have to worry about those games, you have to worry about the football club and not just because it’s about European football. It’s the unique demanding situations that come with it because you’re playing in other countries, in other conditions, in other styles of football, so those are all the kinds of things you like. It’s definitely anything this football club is a part of.
“Not being part of it this year has hurt us because it gives you a chance to develop your squad even quicker with the experiences they have and the ability to give more game time to your squad. So it’s hurt us this year, but hopefully we’re back in it next year and making an impact.”
