Ansu Fati of Barcelona called the Spanish national team for the first time on Thursday when coach Luis Enrique reorganized the team before his return to the competition.
Youngsters Eric Garcia, Ferran Torres and Oscar Rodroguez were also called up for League of Nations matches against Germany and Ukraine in September, as Wolverhampton player Adama Traoré.
Among those that have not included are Jordi Alba, Saúl ‘guez, Alvaro Morata, Francisco’ Isco ‘Alarcón and Diego Costa. The top experienced players on the list were Sergio Ramos, Jess Navas, Sergio Busquets, Dani Carvajal, Thiago Alcontara, Marco Asensio and Rodrigo.
“If the European Championships were to take position tomorrow, it would be my team,” Luis Enrique said. “All players have to step forward, they’re 17, 19, or 33 years old.”
Fati, a 17-year-old striker born in Guinea-Bissau, to play for Spain and had already been called up for the under-21 national team.
“Ansu Fati is at a point where he can be here with us,” Luis Enrique said. “His numbers are correct even though he didn’t play much. He’s got what it takes to be a vital player. I need to see him work out with us.”
Luis Enrique had been following Traoré for a long time.
“He’s come a long way,” the coach said. “It’s a diamond with beastly potential.”
Luis Enrique made the announcement in a video in which he also placed a mask in the locker of all players. The video published through the Spanish Football Federation.
Spain will face Germany on 3 September and then receive Ukraine 3 days later. The players will perform at the team’s educational center in Madrid on August 31.
This is the first team that Luis Enrique appoints since his return to the selection after an absence of more than a year caused by the death of his little girl.
The team’s last announcement in November 2019.
