Anthony Gordon in Liverpool makes a turn as ‘swap deal’ is being negotiated

Liverpool are reportedly in a position to renew their interest in former Everton star Anthony Gordon by offering a player switch deal to Newcastle. The England foreigner is claimed to be contemplating joining an exclusive organization of players who have played for any of the Merseyside clubs.

Gordon linked up heavily with Liverpool earlier in the window. However, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insists there have been no talks between the two Premier League clubs.

Liverpool are keen to sign a new winger, especially as the futures of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah are unclear. Gordon has been an inspiration for Newcastle, but he could be sold to help the Magpies violate the Premier League’s sustainability and benefits rules.

According to Sunday World, Liverpool are comparing an offer that would allow them to bring in players in exchange for Gordon. The Reds have reportedly been “encouraged” to increase their interest in the 23-year-old.

Gordon’s history at Everton would make this decision moot on Merseyside. However, he supposedly idolized legendary former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard in his development.

Newcastle head coach Howe would like to keep Gordon. The striker, who scored 23 goals and assists combined last season, received more free time after being part of the England squad at Euro 2024.

“I would welcome Anthony with three arms if he had them. He’s an integral part of what we do,” Howe said earlier this summer.

“We haven’t had a single verbal exchange over the summer that was conflicting or negative. He has been the Anthony Gordon who surely gave everything in Newcastle and I need that to be transparent to all our fans.

“Anthony wants a little rest, but when he returns he will be ready to go. He is a vital player for us. We didn’t need to lose anyone.

“Why should we lose our players? We fought very hard to make the right decisions, but in the last few weeks it has been very, very difficult.

It is unclear exactly who Liverpool would offer as part of a potential player swap deal. The Reds’ new boss Arne Slot has inherited a strong squad from his predecessor Jurgen Klopp and will continue to go from strength to strength in the summer windows of moves.

Slot has yet to make his first signing, but a winger is believed to be high on Liverpool’s agenda. The Reds could also sign a new centre-back.
