Appointed referees for UEFA Europa League final

Dutchman Danny Makkelie will take the pace of Friday’s setting in Cologne between Seville and Inter Milan.

The UEFA Referees Commission has announced that Dutchman Danny Makkelie will referee the 2020 UEFA Europa League final between Sevilla and Inter Milan, which starts at 21:00 CET on Friday at Stadion Koln in Cologne.

The 37-year-old has been a foreign referee since 2008. This season, Makkelie refereeed seven UEFA Champions League matches, as well as the UEFA Europa League circular of 16 between Bayer Leverkusen and Rangers in Germany. This will be the first UEFA Europa League final that Makkelie will oversee as referee, having been an additional assistant referee in the 2018 festival resolution between Marseille and Atletico Madrid. He was also the assistant video referee for last season’s UEFA Champions League final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

In the Cologne final, Danny Makkelie will be accompanied by two Dutch assistant referees, Mario Diks and Hessel Steegstra, with Greek Anastasios Sidiropolous taking on the role of fourth referee. The video assistant referees will be directed by Jochem Kamphuis of the Netherlands, supported by compatriot Kevin Blom, as well as Tomasz Sokolnicki and Pawel Gil, both Poles.
