A former Victorian warehouse in Birmingham will be changed to 61 after new plans have been approved.
The project, which includes the 14,000-square-foot Lockside House building, is the first in town through Consortia Developments, a genuine London-based asset control and real estate progression company that specializes in new housing.
The consortia had existing permission to convert Lockside House on Scotland Street into 16 homes from an application for authorized development rights (RDPs).
The expander has now received permission to make plans to load a ceiling extension to the construction and expand adjacent car parking, creating a total of 17 1 bedroom homes and 44 2 bedroom homes on site.
The gentle green given through Birmingham City Council’s plan-making committee at a virtual assembly on Thursday, January 7.
Originally built as a workshop and component of a number of buildings known as Scotland Works, Lockside House housed several production corporations in the last 19th century.
In the early twentieth century, a trader of plates and glass sheets occupied the premises.
Associated Architects has designed the new 16 million pound (GDV) program, which will be five to six stories high.
Archie Ward, managing partner of Consortia Developments, said: “Once a workshop and then an office, Lockside House is about to a third act as new houses.
“Although not on the list, construction contributes to the character of the neighborhood and we intend to maintain its assets.
“We are way ahead of the restoration of this construction with character and to improve the wider commercial wasteland.
The consortia, which are financed through a small organization of personal investors, last year acquired Lockside House of Groundwork, the charity.
Olly Clayton, consortia’s spouse, added: “Birmingham has been on our bill of effects for some time, so we are very happy to protect this site and now we have a building permit to expand it.
“The site is in one of the most picturesque parts of the downtown canal system, overlooking the lock and pier of the Farmer’s Bridge Canal, and next to the Grade II Canal Toll Office.

Corsortia plans to begin in May 2021, when existing tenants leave the building.
Ground movements lately occupy the entire most sensitive floor; Sustainability WM, the only other occupant, has 1,000 square feet on the floor at the moment.
Development is expected to be completed in the 2023 quarter.
