Italy’s last word suggests that Napoli and Rome expressed interest in signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Arsenal’s disadvantaged guy.
The Greek sokratis cap has been running in north London for two seasons.
After arriving in the Emirates from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2018, the 32-year-old temporarily established himself as a key contributor to former chief Unai Emery.
In total, his first crusade at Arsenal, Sokratis accumulates 38 outings in all competitions.
Meanwhile, the first few months of the existing crusade saw the veteran continue to play the role of central member of the Gunners’ defensive ranks, and Sokratis was trusted from the start in the club’s first 11 Premier League games.

Since then, however, it has worsened for former AC Milan playwler.
In arsenal’s last 27 league outings this season, Sokratis has made eight openings.
Mikel Arteta’s arrival at the Emirates coincided directly with the reduction of the goalscorer’s playing time, with all David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding in front of Sokratis on the Spaniard’s central defensive line.
As such, it’s no wonder to see Sokratis broadly inclined to be on the move this summer.
Arsenal’s former monetary difficulties have, of course, been well documented in the media, meaning that getting any kind of moderate pay for a much-needed 32-year-old defender would be a welcome boost.
And, as noted above, such a seasoning may be soon.
This comes with a couple of Italian clubs that would have been expressed when signing Sokratis.
The first is in the form of AS Rome, which, in the midst of its difficulties in locating an agreement for Chris Smalling, would be in a position to resort to Greek:

Meanwhile, Napoli has also been linked, with Sky Italia journalist Mario Giunta hinting at a coup from Partenopei.
Significantly, it is added that Sokratis himself “thinks of a new experience”:
