‘Arsenal can’t reverse price’: Lyon leader calls into question Gunners’ move

Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas has to downplay the links between star type Houssem Aouar and Premier League giants Arsenal.

Speculation about the long history of talented midfielder Aouar has, of course, been endemic this summer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed the perfect crusade at The Groupama Stadium in 2019/20, playing a key role when Lyon recovered from a disappointing Ligue 1 final to surprise the masses in the direction of the Champions League semi-finals.

Aouar demonstrated the elegant touch required in the middle of the park for Rudi García’s men, linking the defense to the attack with a point.

In total, in 41 appearances in all competitions, the Frenchman has amassed nine goals and 10 assists.

As such, it has been unexpected since then to see some of the heavyweights of European football transfer to Aouar.

Until recently, the most connected clubs were Manchester City and Juventus.

In weeks, however, a new contender has taken center level in the race for Aouar services.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

At the end of last month, the skilled Fabrizio Romano left to ensure that the Gunners prepared an attack for the Lyon star, with Mikel Arteta “in love” with Aouar.

This, in turn, was followed by a message from the French media that Arsenal had noticed a proposal valued at EUR 35 million, as well as that of an anonymous player (revealed since he was Matteo Guendouzi), rejected through Lyon.

However, as mentioned above, despite the on-the-bar ties between the club and the player, if the Lyon president’s most recent comments are something to say, then Arsenal enthusiasts may be well served to liven up their expectations regarding Aouar’s possible arrival.

In statements to Gunners reporter Chris Wheatley this weekend, Jean-Michel Aulas was directly drawn to Mikel Arteta’s Men’s Interest in his team’s star type.

Classrooms, however, rushed to pour bloodless water into the links, suggesting that Arsenal did not have the budget to succeed in Lyon’s sale price:

Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas told me: “No, I don’t think [if #AFC to point out #Aouar] Array. It will not be offered yet, it turns out that Arsenal do not need or invest the prize for Houssem, who is our most productive player. pic. twitter. com/HDpiHFdXul
