Arsenal have reportedly signed ‘intuitive’ Ajax star Tommy Setford for medical treatment after the Gunners agreed a full deal for the youngster.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who played in England’s youth ranks, becomes Mikel Arteta’s new third choice and will sign a four-year contract.
Arsenal have agreed a payment of around €1 million with Dutch club Ajax and will now go through a medical, according to new reports.
Setford, who has a great future and seems to be on his way to a great career in football, has already explained in the past how he bases his taste for the game on “intuition”.
“For me, Charlie is a very different goalkeeper,” Setford told Ajax in December, when asked about his brother, who also plays in the Eredivisie.
“Of course we have similarities, but he plays much more calculating. For my part, I play more through intuition.
“However, I make the right selection when I’m in goal. It’s not like we analyze each other’s games at home. You recognize when the other has played well, but that’s all.
Arsenal have already made several goalkeeping adjustments ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, as they look to put pressure on Manchester City for the name once again.
The north Londoners have agreed a long-term deal with Brentford’s number one goalkeeper David Raya following his season-long loan move.
Meanwhile, No. 2 goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been deemed surplus and has attracted interest from Newcastle United and Southampton.
Legendary Gunners goalkeeper David Seaman suggested Ramsdale leave the Emirates and a new club.
“I said Aaron was too smart to be number two,” Seaman said. “He is a fantastic player. He wants to play. Wherever he is, I don’t know.
“It is a sittuation. The ideal would be for him to stay because he would be wonderful for the club.
“But he has to move for his career. And that includes England because if he doesn’t play, he will continue to fall down the pecking order with them.
