Arsenal reportedly identify replacement for ‘very bright talent’, but agent to hold Leeds talks

Arsenal are reportedly facing competition for AS Roma defensive midfielder Amadou Diawara from Leeds United.

TMW has claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Diawara in the summer transfer window.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that the Gunners have tested the waters, and that they are looking at the 23-year-old defensive midfielder as a potential replacement for Lucas Torreira, described as a “very bright talent” by then head coach Unai Emery on the club’s official website in July 2018.

Torreira has told Arsenal that he wants to leave this summer, with Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid interested in the midfielder, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (click here to read more).

However, the Gunners are reportedly facing competition for Diawara from promoted side Leeds.

According to Il Messaggero, the agent of Diawara will fly to England next week to hold talks with Leeds regarding a potential move to Elland Road.

The Whites will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship, and head coach Marcelo Bielsa will need reinforcements to have a good campaign.

Stats

Diawara joined Roma from Serie A rivals Napoli in the summer of 2019.

According to WhoScored, the Guinea international defensive midfielder made 19 starts and three substitute appearances in Serie A for Roma this past season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.

The 23-year-old also made five starts and one substitute appearance in the Europa League for the Italian club this campaign, according to WhoScored.
