Arsenal send scouts to keep an eye on Red Bull Salzburg’s Oscar Gloukh

The teenager caught the attention of clubs across Europe at the European Under-19 Championship in the summer of 2022, where he scored 3 goals and two assists in Israel’s run to the final.

Gloukh and his teammates suffered great pain in the trophy match, losing 3-1 to England in extra time, the 19-year-old breaking the impasse in the final and being named in the tournament team.

Gloukh was still doing his business at his boyhood club Maccabi Tel Aviv at the time, but midway through the 2022-23 campaign, he joined Austrian champion Red Bull Salzburg’s famed youth factory.

Maccabi Tel Aviv earned just £6 million from the sale of the 2004-born protégé, but his inventory continued to grow during his time in Austria, where he scored eight goals and nine assists in forty-five games in all competitions.

Gloukh earned the Austrian Bundesliga name in his first half of the season at the club and took his goalscoring exploits to Europe in the 2023-24 season, scoring against Inter Milan and Benfica in the Champions League.

Salzburg’s European crusade ended in the organization phase, but Gloukh still has 4 goals and 4 assists in 18 top-flight games, as well as two goals in 4 Austrian Cup matches.

Mainly pulling the strings of the No. 10 position, Gloukh’s contract with Salzburg runs until the summer of 2027, but he is already tipped to prove himself in the Premier League.

According to FootballTransfers, Arsenal, who are rumoured to be leading the race to sign the Israeli foreigner, deployed scouts to check out Glukh Salzburg’s clash against Blau Weiss Linz at the weekend.

The teenager failed to score a direct goal in the 1-1 draw, but a move from the left wing allowed him to create five chances and make five dribbles, as well as making four deflected attempts.

Despite concrete steps taken to bring Glukh into their ranks, Arsenal could face a festival of Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona for the playmaker, who has scored 3 goals in 12 appearances for Israel since his promotion to the senior national team.

While the 19-year-old is more comfortable in a complex area, he has also been part of a midfield trident in a 4-3-3, and it’s possible that spaces will open up for additions to the Gunners’ engine room this summer.

Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are expected to leave the club as free agents this summer, and while the former’s mandate includes a one-year extension option, it is unclear if it will be activated.

In addition, the Gunners are reportedly willing to accept offers for Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe, who have suffered a number of injuries in their Arsenal careers.

Mikel Arteta’s men climbed to second in the Premier League standings with a 5-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, and will then play Porto in the first leg of the Champions League 16 on Wednesday.
