NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Arsenal will reportedly sign a new winger and a central midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners’ number one priority is to sign a striker (they didn’t do that in January) and they have a four-man roster due to considerations about Gabriel Jesus’ injury history.
However, Arsenal are keen to do so in two other areas and, according to the Daily Mail, are looking for a winger to complement Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
The North Londoners will also be keen to sign a central midfielder, with Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi targeted.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also competing to sign the 25-year-old, who has a €60 million (£51. 2 million) release clause.
Zubimendi has been capped four times by Spain and has spent his entire career at the Real Sociedad club, making 180 appearances to date.
If Arsenal beat Barcelona and Bayern Munich thanks to the signing of Zubimendi, it is believed that they could update Thomas Partey in the Gunners’ squad.
Meanwhile, news of Arsenal’s interest in signing a new winger comes on the same day that it was revealed how much Nicolas Pepe is paid to the club in total.
Pepe flopped at Arsenal after joining Lille in 2019 for £72m, a deal for the club at the time, with the winger joining Trabzonspor as a free agent in September after the Gunners terminated his contract.
Arsenal will be hoping to repeat Pepe’s fate at the club as they look to organise a new festival for the likes of Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson.
