Arsenal’s rivals the Gunners are “in pole position” to sign Benjamin Sesko for £64m

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Arsenal’s rivals Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly leading the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko joined RB Leipzig on a €24 million (£20. 6m) contract with Red Bull Salzburg last summer and scored 17 in his first season with the Bundesliga club.

The 20-year-old has also inspired at the foreign level, scoring 11 goals in 28 games for Slovenia, who are in Group C along with England at Euro 2024 this summer.

Sesko continues to be tracked through Manchester United and the striker’s agent provided at Old Trafford last Sunday in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal “have a strong interest” in Sesko and he will move this summer.

The report adds that rival clubs Arsenal “are now in pole position” to point to Sesko if they comply with an offer.

According to reports in Germany earlier this month, Sesko’s contract has increased from €50 million (£42. 8 million) in the January window to €65 million (£55. 7 million).

This figure, which depends on playing time, goals and assists, could also amount to €75 million (£64. 3 million).

Sesko has also attracted interest from Chelsea, who are expected to look for a new striker in the summer window.

Speaking earlier this season, Sesko insisted he had made the right decision to join RB Leipzig, despite interest from United.

“The fact is that I haven’t been involved in those kinds of conversations,” Sesko told Transfermarkt.

“But I think it’s better to come here.

“For me it’s very important to move into a position where we play a similar style of football.

“I already knew what I had to do and I didn’t have to go through a total learning process again. “
