Girona co-owner Pere Guardiola has denied the hypothesis that he will take advantage of Chelsea target Artem Dovbyk this month.
The Ukrainian striker has scored 12 this season to catapult the Catalans into the La Liga title race alongside Real Madrid, helped in Wednesday night’s 4-3 win over Atletico Madrid.
Naturally, Girona’s good luck has sparked rumours that Europe’s more sensible clubs are poaching his talent, with Barcelona leaning towards bidding for midfielder Aleix Garcia.
But Guardiola, whose brother Pep coaches Manchester City at the helm of the City Football Group that includes Girona, has denied any offer for his players.
“There are no concessions,” he told Revelo. Rumors, all of them. We don’t have offers for anyone.
“Not Barcelona for Aleix, not Chelsea for Dovbyk, nobody.
“And we don’t have any plans to sell to anyone either. The fact is, journalists really love the moving window.
“The truth is that we have a good squad. Obviously it’s normal that things will happen at the end [of the window], but people have noticed us because we are doing things well.”
Chelsea have made signing a striker their most sensible priority in the January transfer window but will want to sell players before they can buy them after a series of expensive acquisitions.
Guardiola added: “What we need is nothing or little in January. “
