Aston Villa condemned Manchester City to a sixth defeat in eight Premier League games with a 2-1 win over the reigning champions at Villa Park.
Jhon Durán gave Merit to Villa at the beginning of the game, taking advantage of a hesitant start of the Pep Guardiola team before Morgan Rogers duplicates the merit in the middle of the second period. The scorers symbolize the speed and strength that the City was missing.
Phil Foden withdrew a purpose in stoppage time, but even that couldn’t mask how poor the city were. The victory puts Unai Emery’s side above them in fifth position in the Premier League table, leaving Guardiola’s side in sixth position and still wondering if and when this crisis will end.
Villa tore into City right from the outset, John McGinn nicking the ball off Josko Gvardiol to allow Duran to test Stefan Ortega inside the first minute. The City goalkeeper had to make two more saves inside the opening 100 seconds as Villa set the tone.
Durán’s first goal was a superbly worked move after Youri Tielemans spotted Morgan Rogers’ run, the marauding midfielder generously returning the ball to the Colombian striker to score his seventh Premier League goal of the season.
Subsequently, the scheme of that city governed ownership without being able to create much remarkable, too static, and too predictable in its passes. Every time they had the ball, it’s like it’s just a break before Villa runs them again.
Duran and Tielemans, in a complex role, were excellent, however Rogers the standout performer due to the way he intimidated Town, with Foden almost rebounding him at one point as he desperately tried to stay on as the Village player.
Again and again, Rogers picked up the ball in the half -turn, clung to his score and moved away from them. Kyle Walker, as a substitute for the halftime that Guardiola tried in vain to replace something, aged in real time when he was opposed.
Man City Head Trainer Pep Guardiola speaking at the press conference . . .
Rogers is a former City player of course, allowed to leave for Middlesbrough in the summer of last year. Guardiola was full of compliments for him, but presented him with an explanation for why he could not make the breakthrough.
“Meanwhile, you have Kevin de Bruyne at his peak, David Silva and Bernardo [Silva], Riyad [Mahrez], Leroy [Sane] and Raheem [Sterling] and it’s difficult. That’s the only explanation why [he didn’t do “” ‘I have the opportunity].
“In this situation right now, of course, these kind of players would be with us, that’s obvious but it just wasn’t in the right moment.
“I’m pleased for him because he’s a lovely guy. He exploded last season and this season. I think he’s a high-level player. England have another notable player. “
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking at the press conferenceArray. .
“Today, how we started, scoring a goal, making intelligent pressure, the first five to ten minutes, corner kicks, was very vital for the confidence it gave us.
“Then they had two chances to score, we were defending so low. We spoke in the dressing room at half-time, the plan was to push them, stop them dominating the ball and, secondly, when building up, stop them pressing us, to get our possession.
“We did that better and stopped them. I think that was key. We started creating chances and scored the [second] goal. Our confidence increased, theirs was going down. I thought it was fantastic.”
He asked if Villa took credit for Man City’s vulnerability. . .
“Manchester City are a bit under the confidence they have normally. They played fantastic for 30 minutes in the first half. If they score in that moment maybe they recover their confidence. In the second half, it was completely different.”
Asked if Villa can finish above Man City this season…
“It’s been 17 games, we have 28 points. City is us, but sometimes they will improve in the next games next month. We have to keep our mentality and think only about the next game. The next game is Newcastle away. “
On paper, things look up a bit for City from here with 4 of the next five games opposing the groups towards the back of the table, the other opposing the Brentford table. But you wouldn’t bet a lot of cash this way.
The city still can face the counterattacks, but its lack of incision against the purpose is equally alarming. “We obtained a purpose,” visiting enthusiasts sang when Foden discovered the Net Network due in the network. We do not create enough opportunities.
For what? Although Jack Grealish has done a lot more given that he was spotted one-on-one with Matty cash in several events over the course of the 90 minutes, the lack of movement with the ball is an apparent response. It was unexpected how the static city was on attack.
Erling Haaland seemed isolated with only Foden willing to run beyond him. Ilkay Gundogan used to, so did Bernardo Silva, but neither are playing well. Kevin De Bruyne remained on the bench but Guardiola clearly doubts the solutions are there either.
Given the city’s long reign, many were reluctant to exclude them from a trademark name burden. But the most pressing question is whether this is the new general for this player organization. It will take time. And mean more painful days ahead.
