Aston Villa agree Donyell Malen transfer fee with Borussia Dortmund

Aston Villa have agreed a €23 million (£19. 4 million, $23. 5 million) deal plus €3 million in add-ons with Borussia Dortmund to sign Donyell Malen.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Villa had opened talks over signing the Netherlands international and had made an opening offer worth around €18m.

Reaching non-public agreements with Villa appears to be a challenge for 25-year-old Malen.

Unai Emery is keen to add a versatile attacking player to his squad in the January window with Malen, who can operate on either flank or through the middle, fitting the bill.

Malen has scored goals for Dortmund this season after making 21 appearances in all competitions.

He joined the Bundesliga club from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021, scoring 39 goals in 132 appearances.

He was a key player last season in the team’s run to the Champions League final, playing in 8 games and being a substitute in the second half of the final.

Malen has played four times for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, winning both times in their 16-win round over Romania and starting the semi-final loss to England.

Villa is in eighth place in the Premier League and will play their next game at Everton on January 15.
