Aston Villa told to up stakes after £18m bid for Euro giant forward turned away

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly told Aston Villa that they will have to offer more than what they currently have on the table for Donyell Malen if they need to sign him.

Villa has risen to prominence in the last two seasons. Last season they finished fourth in the Premier League, confirming Champions League football, and are currently eighth, but four points off the top four.

Unai Emery has reportedly met a new winger as a precedent to help return to the top. He recently claimed they had turned down £15m via Dortmund for Malen.

Now, Football Insider reports that Dortmund have rejected an £18million bid for the striker, who has five targets this season, because they are giving him a higher fee.

The report claims that Dortmund have told Villa that they want between £25 and £30 million for the Dutchman. As such, Villa knows that it wishes to increase its offer if it wishes to see the deal go through.

Villa are likely to increase their offer once Jaden Philogene leaves the club. He re-signed in the summer, but has only started twice in the league since then.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that a £22m plus add-on deal has been agreed for Ipswich, with medical prestige between Philogene and a permanent move to the Tractor Boys.

If Dortmund were to accept an offer at the lower end of the scale that Villa were leaning towards for Malen, Emery’s team would have lost almost nothing between promoting a winger and signing a new one.

That is ideal, given the financial constraints after their summer transfer business.
