Atalanta asks about Retegui and Oskarsson after the clash with Scamacca

Atalanta could simply move from one Italian foreigner to another, asking Genoa Mateo Retegui to update the injured Gianluca Scamacca alongside Iceland’s Orri Oskarsson.

Football Italy Matteo Moretto reports the latest updates on Atalanta’s search for a new midfielder.

Tonight it has been shown that Scamacca tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee yesterday in the pre-season friendly against Parma.

He underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in Rome and will be out for at least six months.

With this in mind, and with El Bilal Touré also potentially on his way out, La Dea wants new attackers and fast.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the new preferred target would be Scamacca’s Italian international teammate Retegui, who is battling him for the starting spot at EURO 2024.

He turned 25 in April and had a decent first season in Serie A, scoring seven and two assists in 29 games.

Genoa signed Retegui from Tigre for €14. 5m last summer and owes his former club a relief of 20 cents in promotion costs.

It is not the first time that he has been linked to Marassi’s departure, as Juventus and Bologna also have an exit.

Moretto wrote in his Caught Offside Daily Briefing column that there may be more than one new striker in Bergamo this summer, as Atalanta are also targeting 19-year-old Orri Oskarsson.

It wouldn’t be cheap, as he recently signed a new contract with FC Copenhagen, bringing the asking price to €20 million, but Girona FC are also showing interest.

Given his lack of experience, La Dea will most likely choose Oskarsson as an additional option and not as the sole replacement for Scamacca.
