Atletico Madrid has announced that they agreed to terminate Diego Costa’s contract for non-public reasons amid rumors that he would possibly join Arsenal.
Former Chelsea Costa 32-year-old professional still had six months to sign his contract after returning to the club in the 2017–18 season.
Atletico said in one on his official website: “Atletico Madrid and Diego Costa have reached an agreement for the termination of the striker’s contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2021”.
The striker asked a few days ago to leave the club for reasons and signed his contract termination on Tuesday.
“The club thanks Diego Costa for his determination during those years and wishes him the best at the next level of his professional career.
Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, it had been reported in Spain that Arsenal would be interested in signing Costa in the January change window to address the Gunners’ lack of power.
Costa has scored 19 goals in appearances in all competitions for Atletico after returning to Chelsea.
