All 3 players are out of contract at the end of June and move on to a loose transfer.
Gikiewicz, 32, has signed a two-year contract, while Caligiuri, 32, and Strobl, 30, have penned deals through to 30 June 2023.
“We are pleased to have recruited 3 high quality players, strong characters, who were leaders in their clubs,” said Augsburg sports director Stefan Reuter of the trio. “We are convinced that they have the right mindset for us on and off the field.”
Gikiewicz made the highest number of stops (115) of all Bundesliga goalkeepers in 2019/20, Yann Sommer of Gladbach (126). The Polish goalkeeper recorded 8 blank sheets while the Union effectively negotiated its first high-level football season, completing five issues on Augsburg in eleventh place.
“I had a wonderful time at Union, but now I’m on the hunt for a new and good fortune in the bankruptcy of my career,” said Gikiewicz, who helped Union move up to the Bundesliga in 2018/19. “I think I’ll adapt quickly, because Union and FCA are similar in many respects.”

Strobl wasn’t convinced either. The Munich-born midfielder has limited himself to just 10 league appearances in 2019/20, raising his overall to 83 in all competitions in his four seasons as a Gladbach player following his departure from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2016.
“FC Augsburg has evolved very well in recent years,” said the former Munich and Cologne snutter of 1860. “I have followed your progress with genuine interest. I am really pleased to be at the FCA now and hopefully I can make a contribution to the club’s progression.”
In addition to the agreements on Gikiewicz, Caligiuri and Strobl, Augsburg also exercised its option to purchase the Felix Uduokhai defence. The 22-year-old played 26 Bundesliga games while on loan at Wolfsburg last season.
Augsburg finished 15th in the 2019/20 Bundesliga final qualifier, five numbers from the relegation court.
