Embarrassed at Real Madrid, Gareth Bale hopes to return to Tottenham of the Premier League to revitalise his career.
Bale agent Jonathan Barnett showed The Associated Press that he is in talks with Tottenham about the incorporation of the 31-year-old striker into the club he left seven years ago.
“That’s where you should go, ” said Barnett to the AP.
The agreement is well over, with the summer market final on October 5.
With a contract pending in Madrid until 2022, Bale could sign for Tottenham with a transfer contract that with a permanent signing. Tottenham, who is controlled through Jose Mourinho, declined to comment.
Bale has been continually frustrated in his efforts to restart his career outside Madrid. The Spanish champions signed Bale from Tottenham for 100 million euros (then $132 million), which was a world record at the time, but has fought for playing time in recent seasons, partly due to injury problems.
Bale accused Madrid of blocking a pass to the Chinese Super League this year.
“There were other incidents when we tried to go, but the club didn’t allow it or do anything,” Bale told Sky this month.
Bale scored memorable goals for Madrid when the team won four Champions League titles, adding a head kick in the 2018 final win over Liverpool.
But he was described as an outing in Madrid for spending time playing golf instead of socializing with team members.
Last year he held Wales’ ranking for the European Championship with a banner that read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order. “
Real Madrid manager Zidane Zidane said in August that Bale had asked to play in what turned out to be the team’s last match of the season, against Manchester City in round 16 of the Champions League.
This led Tottenham to the Champions League for the first time in 2010, which saw Bale grow in the game with dazzling performances for the North London club.
But after joining Tottenham from Southampton at the age of 17 in 2007, Bale’s career had to be stagnant.
He played more than 1,500 minutes in the Premier League for 28 months earlier despite everything assured him of his first victory in the competition. But when he was expelled from the left to an attacking role, his career was transformed.
Tottenham, who lost their first Champions League final to Liverpool in 2019, is looking to find their way back to the festival after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season. The new crusade began with a 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.
