Barcelona 1-4 PSG (4-6 on aggregate): Kylian Mbappe takes Paris Saint-Germain to the tune of Champions League drama

Kylian Mbappe scored the goal that propelled Paris Saint-Germain into the Champions League semi-finals after an impressive comeback against Barcelona.

The striker, likely destined for Real Madrid this summer, scored a penalty to propel PSG to a 6-4 aggregate win on another dramatic night.

Barcelona won at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys with a 3-2 win in their first meeting in Paris and when Raphinha took advantage of Lamine Yamal’s deft paints to open the scoring, he already had his attractions set on the quarter-finals.

But a setback came in the 29th minute when defender Araujo was sent off for tripping winger Bradley Barcola on the edge of the box, and VAR confirmed the on-field resolution with a red card.

The pressure mounted on the home goal and PSG responded to Ousmane Dembele in the 40th minute before Vitinha gave the French champions the lead in the evening.

Barcelona’s frustration extended to their coach Xavi, who was sent off for kicking water bottles, and the Spanish club’s anguish was utter as Mbappe scored from the penalty spot before adding a late moment for a 6-4 aggregate win.

PSG will face Borussia Dortmund in the penultimate match after the German club overcame a 2-1 deficit in the first leg to defeat Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate.
