According to a recent report, Barcelona could sign up for the race to sign a Tottenham player in this summer transfer window.
There is expected to be a drastic situation at Tottenham in this window as Ange Postecoglou looks to reshape his team.
The former Celtic player could get rid of up to 10 players, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur being the departures announced at the moment.
However, a Tottenham signing in 2021 is now piquing Barcelona’s interest and he could simply leave the club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Foot Mercato, Barcelona could sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal.
The Catalan giants sold the Brazilian full-back to Spurs in the summer of 2021, but as they look to add a right-back to their ranks, it appears they are now giving him up.
Emerson is expected to leave the club this summer anyway, and Milan are in pole position lately to get his signature.
But while Barca are looking to update Joao Cancelo, who may not return, Emerson’s call has appeared on their shortlist and now they can also make an offer.
Tottenham are in a position to sanction the sale of Emerson if an offer worth £21m comes in.
At this point, this is proving to be an obstacle for AC Milan, keen to reach a deal for a value below that figure.
Daniel Levy is a difficult negotiator, so the 25-year-old is unlikely to be allowed to opt for a lower price, which would leave the door open for Barcelona to borrow an advance on his signing.
However, the right-back of Barça’s first target is still Aaron Wan-Bissaka, from Manchester United, who has a different profile.
In fact, United will need to recoup at least some of the £50m they spent on him, which may be a challenge for the Catalan giants as they remain on a limited budget.
