The captain of Barcelona Femení and two-time Ballon d’Or winner, Alexia Putellas, will undergo knee surgery, the Catalan club announced this Tuesday.
The Spanish striker had to leave the national team’s training camp in Madrid last month due to a knee injury, which also prevented her from taking part in recent games for Barca.
“Barcelona Women’s star Alexia Putellas underwent arthroscopic surgery on her left knee on Wednesday, December 27,” the club said in a statement.
“The club will make an official announcement once the transaction is completed. “
Putellas, 29, missed Euro 2022 with an ACL injury but is part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad this year.
